Fast Food Coma

I waved my kids off at the airport this morning and went immediately to both KFC and Pizza Hut, as they were in the area. Of course, I had to grocery shop first because these crazy Swedes don’t eat fried chicken at 9am in the morning. (Just wait until they discover fried chicken and waffles.)

I just ate a small snack at KFC to try it out (first one in Stockholm) and I put the pizza box on the passenger seat and turned the seat warmer to HIGH! It worked great!

As I rarely eat fast food these days, I of course fell into a fast food coma for the afternoon. But I’m awake again and ready to tackle the leftover slices in the fridge tomorrow!

Taco Bell – expensive eatin’

I’ve been having to do some food research lately for work and I came across this article on Business Insider about Taco Bell’s new “Low-end menu.”

“Taco Bell’s new “low end” menu release.

Taco Bell released a menu featuring a bunch of items for $1. At a time when McDonald’s and Wendy’s value menus are featuring more expensive items, affordability will help Taco Bell stand out. ”

So, Taco Bell was previously too expensive? Yeah, that 99 cent burrito I was getting was putting me in the poor house.

C’mon people!  Taco Bell barely qualifies as food.  It doesn’t need to be more affordable.  It needs to have a complete overhaul or possibly be shut down for being hazardous to human heath!

Clean cars

I walked down an average neighborhood street yesterday in Stockholm past about 40 cars. As I looked in each one, I noticed they were all completely clean! No food wrappers, trash or even crumbs. Every car looked great inside.

I think I’ve come up with the reason for this. No one eats in their car in Stockholm. It is not a fast food/drive-thru culture. The most people do around here is to take a thermos of coffee. And they love their coffee so much, they wouldn’t dare leave the thermos behind when they get to their destination.

I went through a drive-thru on the outskirts of Stockholm this past summer. I realized I had never done this in my 14 years in Sweden. They had 2 lanes for cars plus they actually used both the pay window and the delivery window – a practice the US seemed to give up about a month after it was introduced, leaving us with fast food restaurants full of empty windows.

Not eating in the car. Interesting concept. The Swedes may be onto something here.

Welcome Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’ Donuts is planning to open in Sweden.  I’m surprised this hasn’t happened earlier.  This country loves donuts and many other EU countries already have Dunkin Donuts.  Yea for us!

However, one of my friends pointed out that the health concious people are complaining, so Dunkin Donuts plans to have a few healthy options.  As my friend says, “If you want something healthy, DON’T GO TO DUNKIN DONUTS!”

To me, this is just as ridiculous as McDonald’s having salad.  If I actually want salad, I’m not going to McDonald’s to get it.  If I want a cucumber breakfast sandwich, I’m not going to Dunkin’ Donuts.

I took my kids to Pizza Hut a few months ago.  One child ordered pancakes and the other only ate salad.  These kids don’t deserve Pizza Hut!  I’m not taking them again.  Yeah, yeah, the salad one is being healthy, but c’mon…. it’s PIZZA HUT!

Ungrateful kids.
