Back from Slovenia! And it was actually a very beautiful place!
We were in Ljubljana and it was Christmas market time. The whole old part of the city was lit up with a castle overlooking the town. Very nice!
My only complaint was about the menus at some of the restaurants. It seems that over half of the restaurants have menus with about 50 items, yet they only have maybe 5. They’re hoping you pick one of those 5 otherwise I’m sure they might have mentioned that when people walked in.
Anyway, here’s how it went to get a “beer.”
Six beers listed on the menu:
“Can I have a Guinness please?”
“No, we don’t have that.”
“What about this one here called Bandito?”
“No, we don’t have that. You can have ‘Radler’.”
Turned out to be a grapefruit beer.
Luckily the Christmas markets outside were overflowing with hot wine and honey mead. My evening was saved.
My family and I are taking a vacation to Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. I know what you’re thinking.
A. Where is Slovenia?
B. Isn’t it just a gray place where people eat goulash?
Actually, no! Though the looks I get from people when I tell them we are taking a vacation in Slovenia are between a half-smile and a worried look in the eyes. It’s like they can’t decide whether they should be happy or feel sorry for us.
It turns out, the city actually looks like this:
Although, it is winter now, but then it’s covered in Christmas lights. Gorgeous!
But if you guys keep wanting to think of goulash peasant towns, go right ahead. I think we will keep this little gem all to ourselves.
I’ve been looking for some flights lately for a trip we will be taking later this year. I’ve tried all sites and finally came to Priceline, with celebrity spokesperson William Shatner. I’ve used Priceline for hotels before and it’s great, but while looking at the screen searching for my flight, I suddenly started wondering if William Shatner knows where Slovenia is. Can he locate Ljubljana? I know he can pilot the galaxy, but Eastern Europe can be really confusing.
